Teaching Framework

On three occasions, Jesus defined what it meant to be a disciple of both His words and His will.  These three dimensions of discipleship are:

ABIDING IN CHRIST - "If you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)

BEARING FRUIT - "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples". (John 15:8)

CARING FOR OTHERS - "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35)

Jesus also spoke of three arenas in which our "followship" of His ways are demonstrated.  When asked what God requires of us, Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all your soul and with all of your mind...and...love your neighbor as yourself." (Matthew 22:38-40).  These three arenas - our relationship to God, others, and self - form the settings in which our faith in Christ is expressed.
